Memoir Course Details
Draft your memoir in a supportive group.
Now you can choose the Stand-Alone Memoir Course or choose a package as shown on this page. All things are possible.
With a memoir package, imagine the support to compile, structure flow, create order, revise and draft your full length manuscript such as Valrie who completed her memoir in segments in the lounges and STAY-Treats. Then in the memoir course, each session covers different elements with brainstorming and learning how to develop content for maximum audience appeal. Such as ensuring your manuscripts include the Absolute Hook Attention Grabber and The Five Essential Elements needed for compelling memoirs.
How to deal with stories that your family may object to:
- Do you want to write about subjects your family doesn’t know about?
- What secrets are revealed in your memoir that you want to write, yet feel conflicted about anyone else knowing?
- Solving these questions will allow you to write your first draft.
Key questions to ask that will help frame your outline:
- Who are you writing for – who is your audience?
- Reasons to write: legacy, healing, family history.
- Who are you talking to in your head?
- Listen to the creative voice in your heard, not the inner critic.
- Keep your work private – creating a safe space to write. If you show it to family members too soon, their inner critic voice joins yours.
Examining your desire to write your memoir will laser in on your focus:
- Family legacy – stories that you want to preserve.
- Family history – going back into the generations and doing genealogical research.
- To understand yourself better and get a new perspective on the past.
- We will look at Pennebaker’s studies on writing as healing.
- To have the last word, even revenge might be in there (on your first draft…)
We will also work through these:
- Memoir themes can be summarized in one line “This book is about…”
- Sample of book themes - Be patient with yourself as it can take time to find your theme.
- What is your point?” What will the reader learn from your book about how life is lived?
- The focus of your memoir is what you will need to think about.
- What will your readers find out that they didn’t know before?
- Do you want to write about subjects your family doesn’t know about?

The memoir course will begin February 5th, 2025 with two sessions a month on the first and third Wednesdays with a bonus session in June before the summer. Each session will be recorded for lifetime access.
The nine sessions will focus on some in-session writing, sharing, and feedback, the mechanics, structure, and development of a memoir, and will culminate in publishing options in the final session. Four main areas will guide, yet not dictate our focus for the sessions:
Issues of Truth and Family - Solving the Obstacles in Your Writing Path: Solving these dilemmas will allow you to write or finish your first draft.
Key Questions to Ask to Frame Your Outline: Who are you writing for, your reasons to write, who do you talk to as you write, and creating a safe space to write.
Examining your desire to write your memoir to laser in on your focus: Family legacy or history, to understand yourself better, gain a new perspective on the past, writing as healing or to have the last word.
Finding your theme and your point: What will your reader gain, what will they find out that they didn’t know before?
