Memoir Course Details
Your memoir is more than what happened — it’s what it means.
You don’t need to remember more.
You need to understand what your story is really about.
The Memoir Cohort is a guided, supportive space for writers who feel called to tell their story — and want help shaping it with clarity, integrity, and emotional resonance.
This is where lived experience becomes meaningful narrative.

What We Work On Together
Inside the Memoir Cohort, we focus on the foundations that carry an entire book:
Crafting vivid, emotionally grounded scenes
Identifying your memoir’s premise and universal truth
Understanding what your story is really about
Learning how insight creates the reader’s “aha” moment
Building momentum through supported writing time
Developing confidence in your voice and instincts
This work is cumulative. Each session builds on the last.

Why This Approach Is Different
Many writing programs focus on output.
This cohort focuses on orientation.
Once you understand:
what story you’re telling
why it matters
and how meaning emerges through scene
…the writing becomes steadier, clearer, and far less intimidating.

Why It’s Priced This Way
I intentionally keep this cohort small and accessible.
Rather than charging more and working briefly with many people, I choose to work closely with a committed group over time. This allows for deeper teaching, greater presence, and a level of care that one-off workshops can’t offer.
The value here isn’t urgency — it’s continuity.

A Final Word
You don’t need to have everything figured out.
You don’t need a perfect outline or polished pages.
You only need the willingness to stay with your story long enough to understand it.
If that feels true, I would be honoured to work with you.

Examining your desire to write your memoir will laser in on your focus:
- Family legacy – stories that you want to preserve.
- Family history – going back into the generations and doing genealogical research.
- To understand yourself better and get a new perspective on the past.
- We will look at Pennebaker’s studies on writing as healing.
- To have the last word, even revenge might be in there (on your first draft…)
We will also work through these:
- Memoir themes can be summarized in one line: “This book is about…”
- Samples of the different structures that make memoir work for a larger audience.
- Ensuring your writing includes the five essential elements of scene.
- Sample of book themes - Be patient with yourself, as it can take time to find your theme.
- What is your point?” What will the reader learn from your book about how life is lived?
- The focus of your memoir is what you will need to think about.
- What will your readers find out that they didn’t know before?
